The Three Stooges and the Secret Stairs in Mount Washington

This colorful mural of Larry, Moe and Curly is on the side of a delightful Mexican restaurant on Figueroa near Walk #5 of the stair hikes in Secret Stairs in Mount Washington.

La Abeja, which means The Bee in Spanish, garnered 4.5 stars on Yelp. I asked the guy who looked like the owner what was the story with all the 3 Stooges paraphernalia inside and out and he said he just liked the Stooges and couldn't believe it's taken this long for a movie to come out.

The stair hike started at the bottom of what was once a funicular up to the top of Mount Washington, nestled between Echo Park and Highland Park. It's hard to imagine the short trolley car ride existed at the turn of the last century to reach the Mount Washington hotel, now a beautiful garden and grounds (open to the public) and retreat of  the Self Realization Fellowship.

The funicular is long gone, but the hotel is in pristine condition. The walk through the canyons shows the old meeting the new in the middle of the serene,

Secret Stairs: Mount Washington # 5. For a complete guide, map and history of stair ways and stair streets, see Secret Stairs by Charles Fleming.
