Paint and Graffiti store paints the town red in Echo Park

By Graffiti Artists for Graffiti Artists.

The Montana Store comes to Echo Park, with everything from paint to pencils.Montana Cans is a designer spray-paint brand from Germany. It does sound cool.

But I know from attending a few Echo Park Chamber of Commerce meetings illegal graffiti is not cool.

Sadly one of the frequent targets are the murals that make Echo Park so special. They are targeted partly because the city won't remove the tags immediately, to protect the artwork. But repair costs money and no one can pay to fix the murals. So sometimes people push to remove the artwork altogether so that it will be easier to remove the graffiti in a timely fashion. Very sad. And it's happening all over the city.

A story on KPCC cited The Eastsider LA reportage - the 4,000 cans of spray paint the store keeps in stock worry residents.

One commenter said Worst Idea Ever.

While another pointedly replied - Hmm, what can is a tagger going to buy? A $6 can from that store or a $3 can from HD? Give me a break you knee-jerk reactionaries.

I wonder what the answer is - does a tagger buy the more expensive paint?

The Huffington Post followed the LA Weekly and the KPCC, all of whom relied on The Eastsider LA.
