Max City BBQ To Host Fundraiser For Victims of Orlando Shooting

Eagle Rock based barbecue restaurant, Max City BBQ, is hosting a benefit to raise money for the victims and families of victims of the tragic Orlando nightclub shooting. The fundraiser will occur on Monday, June 27th from 6-9PM. 100% of the proceeds from food and drink purchases will be donated to the National Compassion Fund.

Max City BBQ is featuring a special menu for the event, including their famous pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese and special drinks. During the fundraiser, the restaurant will be supported completely by a volunteer staff, who are donating their time to ensure the night runs without a hitch. Attendees of the event will be given the opportunity to write words of love and encouragement to victims in recovery and the families of those who lost their lives. The Orlando nightclub shooting, which left 49 dead and 53 injured in the early morning of June 12th, was the worst mass shooting in American history. The attack was specifically aimed at a gay nightclub, where the perpetrator intentionally harmed members of the LGBT community. Max City BBQ owners and husband and wife team, Melanie Blair and Jason McDonald, along with their business partner, John Andrus, are hosting the event to show their solidarity with the LGBT community and victims of violence.

This fundraiser marks the second benefit that Max City BBQ has hosted in the past year. In December of 2015, the restaurant held a benefit brunch that raised over $2,000 for Recycled Resources For The Homeless, a nonprofit that seeks to provide basic necessities for and create supportive relationships with the homeless population of Northeast Los Angeles. Max City BBQ, located at 4729 Eagle Rock Boulevard, has been consistently named one of Los Angeles’ best barbecue restaurants by LA Weekly,Thrillist, and Eater. Funded by a Kickstarter campaign that reached its goal in under a month, the restaurant opened its doors in 2014 and has served Southern-style barbecue ever since. “We hope to see the community come together on June 27th,” says co-owner Melanie Blair. “We’re eager to send the victims of the Orlando shooting some love and much needed support.”
