From the East Side through Downtown to Echo Park (almost) - a chance to see LA like never before

Los Angeles continues its visionary ways by hosting a Ciclovia. A what?

It's not a race or a grop ride. It's the temporary creation of a park connecting the city. Walkers and riders can joint in any where along the seven mile rout from East Los Angeles, through downtown, along 7th, paralleling Vermont to the 101.

In Bogata, Columbia they host ciclovía every Sunday on 80 miles of city streets.

"A Ciclovía is not just for recreation. It is social integration," the website says.

I first heard about it on Which Way LA with Warren Olney. My wife and I were immediately impressed.

Los Angeles’ first CicLAvia will be Sunday October 10th 2010 from 10am-3pm.

The organizers are your typical do gooders that make LA a better place -

like the LA County Bicycle Coalition, Jenn Su of GOOD and who I worked with as an intern at Public Matters, and Joe Linton, an artist who took me and dozens of others on tours of the bridges that cross the Los Angeles River. And a whole lot more. Get involved the easy way - come out for the Ciclavia.
