June is National Caribbean-American Heritage Month! To celebrate, the Institute of Musical Arts presents "Caribbean Gems", an Afternoon of Stories and Song by Yvette Brandy, on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
When planning a trip to the Caribbean, the hardest part might be choosing which island to visit. We all know that the islands boast ocean breezes, warm white sand and crystal clear waters, but with such varying histories, cultures, and styles, how do you choose? Well, now you don’t have to. In “Caribbean Gems”, Yvette Brandy will entertain and inform us with a delightful assortment of stories and “special offers” certain to enhance our appreciation of all things Caribbean.
Yvette is a singer, songwriter and storyteller. Born and raised on St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, she weaves West Indian history and culture into dynamic performances of West Indian Anansi stories, "Jumbie" (Ghost) tales, historical and multicultural stories, as well as her own personal and original stories. Yvette’s stories come alive with the melodic intonations of multiple dialects paired with traditional and original musical compositions. You don't have to escape to an island with paradise in its name to have a spectacular Caribbean island experience. Yvette 's storytelling and beautiful songs transfix and transport her audiences.
We'd love to have you share in the festivities and enjoy an afternoon of great entertainment. As is our custom at the Institute of Musical Arts, a catered reception will follow the performance. You can buy tickets for $20.00 online at http://caribbeangems.eventbrite.com by visiting our website: http://www.imalosangeles.com or you can pay by cash, check or credit card, at the IMA office, while supplies last. For additional information call: (323) 300-6578.
