Event Description

Author and sociologist Candy Leonard will read from her just-published book, BEATLENESS: HOW THE BEATLES AND THEIR FANS REMADE THE WORLD

It's the story of how the Beatles’ constant presence in the 1960s transformed the childhood and adolescence of millions of young people, and how, with a little help from their fans, the Beatles “changed everything.”

BEATLENESS has been called a “must read” for Beatle fans (of all ages), and for anyone interested in post-war American history or mid-century pop culture.

In honor of John Lennon’s birthday, the reading will focus on how first-generation fans perceived Lennon over the course of the Beatles’ evolution, and on this historically unique relationship between artist and audience.

Readings will be followed by conversation with LA-based music journalist Matt Diehl, whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, LA Times, and Entertainment Weekly.

And there will be birthday cake!
